Epidemiology
Hand-foot-mouth disease is an infectious disease caused by enteroviruses (EV). Currently, 108 kinds of serotypes of enteroviruses have been found, which are divided into four groups: A, B, C and D. Among them, enterovirus EV71 and CoxA16 are the main pathogens. The disease mostly occurs in children under 5 years old, and can cause herpes on the hands, feet, mouth and other parts. A small number of children will develop complications such as myocarditis, pulmonary edema, and aseptic meningoencephalitis.

Work Flow
Option 1.
Recommended extraction reagent: Macro & Micro-Test Sample Release Reagent (HWTS-3005-8), and the extraction should be conducted according to the instruction for use. The extracted samples are the oropharyngeal swabs or herpes fluid samples from patients that collected on site. Add the collected swabs into the Macro & Micro-Test Sample Release Reagent (HWTS-3005-8) directly, vortex and mix well, place at room temperature for 5 minutes, take them out and then invert to mix well, to obtain the RNA of each sample.
Option 2.
Recommended extraction reagent: Macro & Micro-Test General DNA/RNA Kit (HWTS-3017-50, HWTS-3017-32, HWTS-3017-48, HWTS-3017-96) (which can be used with Macro & Micro-Test Automatic Nucleic Acid Extractor (HWTS-3006C, HWTS-3006B)) by Jiangsu Macro & Micro-Test Med-Tech Co., Ltd., and the extraction should be conducted according to the instruction for use. The extracted sample volume is 200µL, and the recommended elution volume is 80µL.
Option3.
Recommended extraction reagent: QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit (52904) by QIAGEN or TIANamp Virus DNA/RNA Kit (YDP315-R), and the extraction should be conducted in strict accordance with the instruction for use. The extracted sample volume is 140μL, and the recommended elution volume is 60µL.
