Human Metapneumovirus Antigen

Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) belongs to the Pneumoviridae family, the Metapneumovirus genus. It is an enveloped single-stranded negative-sense RNA virus with an average diameter of approximately 200 nm. The hMPV includes two genotypes, A and B, which can be divided into four subtypes: A1, A2, B1, and B2. These subtypes often circulate at the same time, and there is no significant difference in the transmissibility and pathogenicity of each subtype .

The hMPV infection usually presents as a mild, self-limiting disease. However, some patients may require hospitalization due to complications such as bronchiolitis, pneumonia, acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and acute exacerbation of bronchial asthma. Immunocompromised patients may develop severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) or multiple organ dysfunction, and even death.
