Epidemiology
Monkeypox (MPX) is an acute zoonotic disease caused by Monkeypox Virus (MPXV). MPXV is a double-stranded DNA virus with a rounded brick or oval shape and is about 197Kb long. The disease is mainly transmitted by animals, and humans can become infected by bites from infected animals or by direct contact with the blood, body fluids and rashes of infected animals. The virus can also be transmitted from person to person, mainly through respiratory droplets during prolonged, direct face-to-face contact or through direct contact with bodily fluids or contaminated objects of patients. The clinical symptoms of monkeypox infection in humans are similar to those of smallpox, with fever, headache, muscle pain and back, swollen lymph nodes, fatigue and discomfort after a 12-day incubation period. A rash appears 1-3 days after fever, usually first on the face, but also on other parts. The course of the disease generally lasts 2-4 weeks, and the mortality rate is 1%-10%. Lymphadenopathy is one of the main differences between this disease and smallpox.
This kit can detect monkeypox virus IgM and IgG antibodies in the sample at the same time. A positive IgM result indicates that the subject is in the infection period, and a positive IgG result indicates that the subject has been infected in the past or is in the recovery period of infection.
