Epidemiology
Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) is a kind of the smallest prokaryotic microorganism, which is between bacteria and virus, with cell structure but no cell wall. MP mainly causes human respiratory tract infection, especially in children and young people. It can cause human mycoplasma pneumonia, children’ s respiratory tract infection and atypical pneumonia. The clinical manifestations are various, most of which are severe cough, fever, chills, headache, sore throat. Upper respiratory tract infection and bronchial pneumonia are the most common. Some patients can develop from upper respiratory tract infection to severe pneumonia, severe respiratory distress and death may occur.

Work Flow
(1) Sputum Sample
Recommended extraction reagent: Macro & Micro-Test Viral DNA/RNA Kit (HWTS-3017-50, HWTS-3017-32, HWTS-3017-48, HWTS-3017-96) (which can be used with Macro & Micro-Test Automatic Nucleic Acid Extractor (HWTS-3006C, HWTS-3006B)) by Jiangsu Macro & Micro-Test Med-Tech Co., Ltd. Add 200µL of normal saline to the processed precipitate. Subsequent extraction should be performed according to the instruction for use. The recommended elution volume is 80µL.Recommended extraction reagent: Nucleic Acid Extraction or Purification Reagent (YDP315-R). The extraction should be performed strictly according to the instruction for use. The recommended elution volume is 60µL.
(2) Oropharyngeal swab
Recommended extraction reagent: Macro & Micro-Test Viral DNA/RNA Kit (HWTS-3017-50, HWTS-3017-32, HWTS-3017-48, HWTS-3017-96) (which can be used with Macro & Micro-Test Automatic Nucleic Acid Extractor (HWTS-3006C, HWTS-3006B)) by Jiangsu Macro & Micro-Test Med-Tech Co., Ltd. The extraction should be performed according to the instruction for use. The recommended extraction volume of sample is 200µL, and the recommended elution volume is 80µL.Recommended extraction reagent: QIAamp Viral RNA Mini Kit (52904) or Nucleic Acid Extraction or Purification Reagent (YDP315-R). The extraction should be performed strictly according to the instruction for use. The recommended extraction volume of sample is 140µL, and the recommended elution volume is 60µL.
