Significance of Detection
Fungal candidiasis (also known as candidal infection) is relatively common. There are many types of Candida and more than 200 types of Candida have beendiscovered so far. Candida albicans (CA) is the most pathogenic, which accounts for about 70% of all clinical infections.CA, also known as white Candida, normally parasitizes on the mucous membranes of human skin, oral cavity, gastrointestinal tract, vagina, etc. When the human immune function is abnormal or the normal flora is out of balance, CA may cause systemic infection, vaginal infection, lower respiratory tract infection, etc.
Vaginitis: About 75% of women experience vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) at least once in their lifetime, and half of them will recur. In addition to painful physical symptoms such as vulvovaginal itching and burning, severe cases may cause restlessness, which is more obvious at night, and it also seriously affects the patient's emotions and psychology. VVC has no specific clinical manifestations, and laboratory tests are the key to diagnosis.
Pulmonary fungal infection: CA infection is an important cause of death from hospital infection and it accounts for about 40% among critically ill patients in the ICU. A multicenter retrospective survey of pulmonary fungal disease in China from 1998 to 2007 found that pulmonary candidiasis accounted for 34.2%, of which CA accounted for 65% of pulmonary candidiasis. Respiratory CA infection lacks typical clinical symptoms and has low specificity in imaging manifestations, making early diagnosis difficult. The expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary fungal disease recommends the use of qualified sputum samples coughed up deeply, strengthening molecular biological testing, and providing corresponding fungal treatment plans.
