Epidemiology
Triiodothyronine (T3) is an important thyroid hormone that acts on various target organs. T3 is synthesized and secreted by thyroid gland (about 20%) or converted from thyroxine by deiodination at 5' position (about 80%), and its secretion is regulated by thyrotropin (TSH) and thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), and the level of T3 also has negative feedback regulation on TSH. In blood circulation, 99.7% of T3 binds to binding protein, while free T3 (FT3) exerts its physiological activity. The sensitivity and specificity of FT3 detection for disease diagnosis are good, but compared with total T3, it is more susceptible to the interference of some diseases and drugs, resulting in false high or low results. At this time, the total T3 detection results can more accurately reflect the state of triiodothyronine in the body. The determination of total T3 is of great significance for thyroid function examination, and it is mainly used to assist in the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism and the evaluation of its clinical efficacy.
